Stay warm and connected with nature this winter! ❄️ Scroll down for printable itinerary!

One of our favorite local traditions: hand-feeding wild chickadees at the Brecksville Nature Center. It's a magical experience that truly has no age limit.
I first brought my son, Zion, when he was just 8 years old. Now, years later, it’s still just as captivating. There is something profoundly peaceful about standing perfectly still in the crisp winter air until a tiny, feathered friend decides you’re a safe place to land.

A Quick Reality Check: While the woods are serene, they can get surprisingly competitive! I couldn’t help but laugh at the woman standing next to Zion—apparently, the chickadees have a favorite!
Why You Should Go:
It’s Free: The nature center provides the black oil sunflower seeds and the expertise—you just bring the patience.
Indoor & Outdoor Fun: Before heading out to the feeding area, you can now hang out inside the beautiful nature center. They’ve added a cozy setup with coffee and binoculars, so you can scout the feeders and warm up before your "one-on-one" session with the birds.
Beautiful Scenery: The Brecksville Reservation is stunning in the winter, with snow-dusted trails and a peaceful atmosphere that feels miles away from the city.
Travel Tip: The "Hand Feed a Chickadee" program typically runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon during January and February. It’s the perfect low-cost, high-reward weekend outing for families or anyone looking to reconnect with the wild.
