When it comes to local rivalries, Clevelanders hold nothing back—especially when it's East Side vs. West Side. If you caught my tour of our favorite West Side pocket parks, you already know how much I love a quiet, crowd-free waterfront hideaway. But as summer starts slipping through our fingers, it’s time to settle the score once and for all: Does the East Side actually beach better?

If your tolerance for wall-to-wall crowds and parking-lot hunger games is sitting comfortably at a hard zero, you don't need to throw elbows at a giant public beach just to get a breath of fresh lake air. We’re drawing the line, quite literally, in the sand and heading east to test three low-stress coastal hideaways where you can actually unplug, catch a breeze, and finally hear yourself think.

Grab your bevvy of choice, pack your sense of adventure, and let’s talk Sims Beach, the Euclid Beach / Villa Angela two-for-one combo, and Lakefront Lodge. It’s time to see if the East Side can take the crown in the ultimate coastal showdown!

Sims Park & Beach (Euclid): Pier Views, Historic Charm & Sunset Swings

If you loved the sleek pier upgrade at Bradstreet’s Landing on the West Side, Sims Park is the East Side’s mic-drop response. Anchored by the historic 1920s Henn Mansion—which gives off major HBO’s The Gilded Age estate vibes—this park blends grand industrial-era architecture with modern coastal relaxation. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to sip tea dramatically on the lawn while wearing a oversized sun hat.

The Pier, Swings & Scenic Overlook

The main event is the massive 650-foot observation pier. It’s wide, level, and so smooth you could practically roll a bowling ball down it. If your Mojo Dojo Casa House is feeling a little too chaotic this week, sitting in one of these elegant, modern sunset swings is the ultimate low E way to reset.

Accessibility Breakdown (The Real Talk)

Terrain & Path Conditions: Highly accessible! Paved trails loop cleanly from the parking areas straight out onto the pier, past the mansion, and across the sweeping green lawn. Whether you’re pushing a rollator, wheelchair, or stroller, it’s pure smooth sailing.
Seating & Shade: Plentiful! Between the sunset swings, shaded benches, and grassy lawns, there are endless places to stop, take a breather, and soak in the lake air.
Parking & Bathrooms: Ample paved parking with dedicated ADA spaces near the trailheads and pier entrance, plus accessible on-site restrooms.
Mobility Reality Check: If you want to touch the sand, a paved ramp leads down toward the shoreline. However, staying up top on the paved overlook and pier gives you 100% of the breeze, the sunset swings, and the views with zero strain.
The Vibe: Elegant, spacious, and restorative. Between community fitness on the lawn and folks quietly fishing off the pier, it’s vibrant without ever feeling chaotic.

Euclid Beach Park & Villa Angela Reservation: The 2-for-1 Coastal Combo

Distance from Downtown Cleveland: ~10–15 minutes east

Why settle for one park when you can get two right next door for zero extra effort? Connected seamlessly along the shoreline, and paved trail, Euclid Beach and Villa Angela combine massive doses of nostalgic Cleveland history with a tranquil natural retreat.

Nostalgia Meets Modern Coastline

Euclid Beach was once home to Cleveland’s iconic vintage amusement park. While the coaster tracks are gone, the historic gateway arch still stands guard. Today, the park features a wide, concrete promenade and a modern pier lined with bright, colorful Adirondack chairs. Next door at Villa Angela, you’ll find a second pier, a seasonal watercraft launch, and concessions for cold drinks.

💡 Low-Stress Travel Tip: While a flat, paved trail connects both parks, you can easily drive around and park at Villa Angela directly if long walks trigger fatigue or anxiety!

Accessibility Breakdown (The Real Talk)

Terrain & Path Conditions: Everything around the main Euclid Beach pier and promenade is modern, flat, and fully paved. Pushing mobility equipment or strollers is completely smooth sailing.
The Beach Mat Advantage: Villa Angela features accessible boardwalk segments and an extended beach mat laid over the sand. You can roll right up near the water's edge without doing that awkward, calf-burning "sand shuffle"!
Seating & Shade: Plentiful! Those bright Adirondack chairs lining the Euclid Beach pier are built for lingering, plus there are shaded pavilions and grassy lawns.
Parking & Bathrooms: Level, paved lots sit right at both park entrances with dedicated ADA spaces and clean, accessible restrooms.
Mobility Reality Check: Having two distinct piers and separate parking areas gives you total control over your energy levels. You get lake breezes, bird-watching, and historic sights without navigating steep stairs or slick rocks.
The Vibe: Nostalgic, breezy, and hands-down the most mobility-friendly stop on the tour.

Lakefront Lodge (Willowick): The Secret Cliffside Haven

If Rocky River Park is the West Side's hidden neighborhood secret, Lakefront Lodge is its East Side twin. Tucked behind a charming lodge building, this quiet pocket park feels almost private—the ultimate antidote to crowd fatigue.

The Cliffside View, Birdhouses & Mindful Park Vibes

Sitting high on the bluffs, Lakefront Lodge offers an elevated, panoramic window straight across Lake Erie. Along the grassy drop-off, colorful birdhouses draw local wildlife right to the cliffside. The atmosphere here is wonderfully relaxed—on our visit, we saw folks playing chess, and someone had even brought a Lego kit to build at a picnic table (officially my new gold standard for mindful park activities!).

🏖️ Bonus Sight: Be sure to check out the detailed sand sculpture on display near the upper park area! Lakefront Lodge is an official stop on the Lake County Sand Sculpture Tour, giving you a front-row seat to some incredible beach art without having to step foot in the sand or trek down a steep hill.

Terrain & Path Conditions: The upper lawn, pavilion area, and cliffside overlook are level, smooth, and easy to navigate via paved walkways.
Seating & Overlooks: The star of the show is the elevated observation platform, decked out with comfortable Adirondack chairs that invite you to sit and linger.
Parking & Bathrooms: A level parking lot sits right at the entrance with ADA-accessible spaces and on-site restrooms.
Mobility Reality Check (The Beach Path): There is a marked path leading down to the shore. Zion took one look at it, and without hesitation took off down to the sand. I took one look at that steep grade, laughed, and sat my happy self right down in a cliffside Adirondack chair! Know your limits, protect your joints, and let the teenagers do the climbing.
The Vibe: Intimate, peaceful, and weightless.

🍦 Nearby Local Eat: Swing by CP’s Cool Stuff down the street for house-made ice cream! They make incredible handcrafted flavors, have plenty of vegan & gluten free options and they give back to the community in big ways (like hosting events where 100% of sales support local college students)! Grab a cup or cone to enjoy back on the cliffside observation platform.

Having grown up with Mentor Headlands as my original stomping ground, but spending most of my adult life calls-it-home on the West Side, I'll admit I'm completely torn. It really is a toss-up depending on the day's vibe!

Whether you're taking in the pier views at Sims, catching a breeze at Euclid Beach, or soaking up the cliffside views from those yellow chairs at Lakefront Lodge, the East Side definitely proves it can hold its own in any coastal showdown.

Plot twist, though: of all the beaches I’ve visited across the region, my absolute all-time favorite wasn't even featured in the West Side post or this round. I’m keeping that crown jewel under wraps for an upcoming feature!
